In India, students who want to take undergraduate medical and dental programs like MBBS, BDS, AYUSH (BAMS, BHMS, BSMS, and B.VSc.) are required to pass the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET). & AH, as well as a BSc Nursing. It is administered by the National Testing Agency (NTA), a separate organization that is affiliated with the Ministry of Education of the Indian government.

The NEET UG (Undergraduate) exam is open to students who have completed or are currently taking their 10+2 (senior secondary) exam with English, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology/Biotechnology as core subjects. The most recent Supreme Court order stipulates that applicants must be at least 17 years old to apply, with no upper age limit (although eligibility requirements may change in the future). Indian citizens, Overseas Citizens of India (OCI), Persons of Indian Origin (PIO), Non-Resident Indians (NRI), and even foreign nationals are eligible to apply for the NEET. Candidates in the general category must pass the 10+2 exam with at least 45% in PwD, 40% in reserved categories (SC/ST/OBC), and at least 50% in PCB (Physics, Chemistry, and Biology). NEET is also mandatory for Indian students who wish to study MBBS abroad and later practice medicine in India; they must qualify NEET before enrolling in foreign universities.
An additional four points are awarded for each correct response, while one point is deducted for each incorrect response. The maximum score for all players is 720 points. For All India Quota (AIQ) seats, candidates are referred to the Medical Counseling Committee (MCC) for centralized counseling, and for State Quota seats, candidates are referred to the respective state authorities. The NEET rank alone is the sole criterion for admission to prestigious government institutions like AIIMS, JIPMER, AFMC, and state-run colleges. Some students are accepted to prestigious colleges based on their score, rank, and category, while others may apply to private or deemed universities.
